Squad Training
The Tobi Ishi Kai Kata Squad has a formidable reputation in Wado Karate. Since it’s formation on 2004, students under the tutelage of Sensei Mark Beeby & Sensei Justine Wilson-Cleife have achieved phenomenal success on the competition circuit, from local through to international level. Since 2006 the squad has averaged over 300 medals per annum acheiving outstanding success in the Wado Circuit and medalling year after year in the Wado European Championships. Current training is focused on open competition with an aim for selection into the EKF National Squad.
Competition training is held weekly at the Kyoso Kata & Kumite Academy. Kata training is taken by Sensei Beeby and Sensei Wilson-Cleife, all students regardless of grade are taught Wado and Open Katas. Kumite instruction at the Academy is aimed at providing specific competition training, however all Tobi Ishi Kai students will benefit from the extra training in drills and sparring, a great bolt-on to your weekly training. If you would like your child to take part in this training please contact us for further details or See Times and Venues for additional information

Meet some of the students
Tara Wilson
Tara started karate at the age of 6 years and at that time was unable to concentrate for more than 10 minutes at a time in any lesson.
However, by the time she had reached 10 years, Tara was winning numerous titles including Wadokai British Champion, Wadokai European Team Champion and European Individual Bronze medallist.
Today Tara (13 yrs), has grown into a formidable competitor, known for her strong, powerful performances in kata, she has gained too many titles to mention, and not enough room to store all the medals and trophies.
Callum Whatmore
Callum instantly took to karate and within his first year of training began to bring home the medals. Callum has presence on a competition mat and agility that serves him well in kata and kumite.
Callum consistently medals at every competition in Kata and in the past year has also shown outstanding talent in Kumite.
Like Tara and the other students mentioned here, Callum has gained far too many titles to mention but has achieved medals in events such as the Wado British Championships and Europeans.
Emily Davies
Emily is a natural technician and a gifted karate-ka. Emily’s tenacity to perform the perfect kata often means that she will not use a kata in competition until she has spent an infinite number of hours training, refining and perfecting her performance.
Emily, like her team mates has achieved outstanding results in competition again winning numerous titles.

Katrina trained diligently under the tuition of Sensei Beeby and Sensei Wilson-Cleife for 8 years, winning numerous titles including the British and European Championships.
Katrina has retained her title as European Champion, winning and retaining the title each year since 2006. Katrina went on to win the title of Junior World Champion (Wadokai) in Japan 2010 and aims to take the Senior title at the next World Championships in France in 2015. All at Tobi Ishi Kai wish her every success but we constantly remind her that Tobi Ishi Kai has students training to take the Seniors title too! - Good luck to all and remember 'Hard Work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard'
