Fees

What are the costs? Is Karate expensive?

No, with Tobi Ishi Kai you do not pay any Joining fees or overpriced lesson fees. Membership to Tobi Ishi Kai allows the student the option to take either unlimited lessons every week for only £25 per month, or alternatively, 'Pay As You Go' for just £3.50 for each individual lesson.

Most martial art classes charge around £5.50 per one hour lesson. For the average student who trains 2 hours a week, that would cost them approximately £49.50 per month – so training with Tobi Ishi Kai offers great value as well as excellent training.

Additional Charges

Tobi Ishi Kai is a professional Martial Arts School. We do not believe in small print and make clear all costs to the student.

You do not need to buy expensive equipment. To start off with, jogging bottoms and T-shirts are recommended. A starter pack which includes karate gi, white belt and a grading syllabus/attendance record book are available for only £25.00 (£35.00 for an adult medium weight suit) – this compares well against the cost of a premier league football top or any other sports wear/equipment. Please note that only Tobi Ishi Kai Karate Suits are allowed to be worn.

Gradings

You can take up to four gradings each year, depending on your age and ability. The grading includes your examination, certificate and belt. Every effort is made to keep costs to a minimum, the grading which encourages achievement and commitment starts at £15.00.

Pre-Grading Courses

Once a month there are courses available for students 'Yellow Belt and above'. Theses courses are specific to your grading and cover fully the requirements for a successful grading examination. These courses are optional, however in order to prepare for gradings, we recommend at least attending two courses before each grading. Cost: £10.

Are there any further costs?

Law requires anyone practicing a martial art to hold an association licence, which covers its members for accidental injury and public liability indemnity. This Licence also gives you membership to EKF (English Karate Federation) You will need to buy a licence after 6 weeks of joining. This licence, a passport style book, is kept as a record of all your gradings and like all insurance documents is renewable annually at a cost of £25.
